SHS Team/Parent Meeting Girls Soccer Fall 2009
Congratulations to you/your daughters on making the team. We are excited to be coaching this year and are committed to making this the best experience that we can.
Fees: $120 total fees to be paid in the finance office before Aug 11th. Without fees players will not play. If anyone is having problems with fees please contact Coach Swanson and we will see what can be done. Will not be shared with others
a. $45 Participation Fee
b. $45 Player packet(this all goes toward items the players keep)
c. $30 St George trip fee(This year $1000 of the bus ride comes out of our budget)
3. Parent expectations
a. We welcome parent participation. We have a tradition of having the parents of seniors take the lead in helping. We will probably have a team dinner each week and would welcome all of the parents participating.
b. We encourage active cheering at the games. In my opinion, our parents have been some of the best behaved in the entire state. The refereeing will be suspect quite often. We would encourage only positive comments to the team. Please don’t get on the refs.
c. You as parents will not always agree with us as a coaching staff. I welcome email or discussions that are kept appropriate.
d. Know that we are concerned about the experience of each girl on the team. Having said that we will not give equal playing time, or any playing time to some. The attitude, practice habits, and strengths we are looking for all go into our decisions. You will not always have visibility into that. But you may also disagree with our decisions. Please know we are discussing as coaches all of the decisions that are being made.
4. St George Trip
a. We will be leaving at 7:45 AM Thursday Aug 12th.
b. We will have 4 to 6 chaperones on the bus. Terryl Swanson, Ryan Swanson, Julie Marchbanks, Kim Marchbanks, Jay Mason, and Rich Davis
c. 4 Girls per room as assigned by coaches
d. We will be staying at Best Western Coral Hills, 125 E St George Blvd 435-673-4844
e. No girls are allowed to leave the Motel unless they have permission and are in a group of 3 or more.
f. We will be returning on Saturday morning at 8:00AM
5. Player expectations
a. Practice will start at 3:15PM on non game days.
b. Players not in school on day of game are not allowed to play in the game. UHSAA rule (school sponsored activities are ok, doctors visits have to be cleared with Athletic Director)
c. We will have a fundraiser for the booster breakfast being held Sat morning Sept 19. We need each girl to sell 4 tickets ($5 per ticket) Depending on the camp in 2 weeks they may only need to sell 2 or 3 each. If we want to sell them before other sports do, we can print temporary tickets and approach neighbors early.
d. There are 4 coaches on this team. This is a luxury most schools don’t have. The players need to understand that all 4 coaches have the team’s best interest in mind while coaching. The girls are to show respect to all 4 coaches. If coaches give you seemingly conflicting information feel free to get clarification. In the past 3 years I have rarely found any of the coaches to disagree on strategies. We may at times need to clarify.
e. Players will show respect to all of their teammates. If there are issues we expect players to go to the person they have issues with. If there are still issues please see the coaches.
f. Players will practice hard, but be careful to not injure teammates.
g. Proper language and actions are expected at all times. We will play physical, but we will be fair.
h. Players are expected to help with any assigned team responsibilities(cleaning stadium, snack shack, or other service projects we decide to participate in.
I. Players will respect the team captains. You are expected to maintain good grades while on the team.
6. Misc.
a. Players must ride the bus to athletic contests. They are not permitted to drive themselves. No player is allowed to go home with another players parents
b. Players are expected to support both Varsity and JV. Players must check with coaches before leaving a game early.
7. Uniform Care
Uniforms must not be dried in dryer.
Uniforms should not be washed with fabric softener(it ruins the vinyl numbering)
Please do not use bleach on the uniforms
I have read the item listed on this document. I understand what is expected of me in supporting SHS girls soccer
